5.2. Creating a HotSync Service Connection Profile

To HotSync over Bluetooth, or to surf using Bluetooth, we need to create a connection profile for that interface, if one doesn't already exist. Creating these is very easy, and can be done quickly. Follow the screenshots below for details.

To create a new connection profile, tap on HotSync, then on Menu, and go to Connection Setup, as shown below:

You will see a list of available connections here, such as "PalmModem", "Cradle/Cable", and so on. At the bottom, tap on "New..." to create a new connection type.

In the "Name" field, give this connection type a descriptive name. I chose to call it "Bluetooth to PC", because that is what it does. You can choose any name you wish, as long as it makes sense to you when you select it from the list of available connections.

There are several dropdowns here as well. You'll want to pick "PC" in the "Connect to" dropdown, and "Via" should be set to "Bluetooth" from the list. Your final connection profile should match the following, so far:

There is one more box there, called "Device". You will need to tell the Palm which device you are going to communicate with, using this connection profile. In this case, you will be communicating with the desktop machine we've been working with all along.

Tap on the "Tap to Find" portion of this selector, and let the Palm search for available Bluetooth devices within range, similar to before.

If all goes well, it should find the device, 'wrath-0' in my case, and authorize it as a pairing endpoint, or peer.

Finally, tap on "OK" here, and you should see your new connection profile in the list of available profiles to choose from.

Tap on "Done" here, and now you should see the "Bluetooth to PC" profile in the dropdown below the HotSync icon, as shown here:
